A motor car, with five occupants, was observed by the police at Stroud travelling in the direction of Panswick at midnight. The men answered the description of the gang wanted in connection with the recent burglaries in Gloucester. The police secured a motor car, pursued, and met the gang returning from Panswick, where a garage had been broken into. The gang’s car swerved to avoid a collision and overturned. Three of the occupants escaped and two others were pinned under the wreckage and killed. A quantity of stolen goods was found in the car. Detectives have established the fact that a gang, engaged in systematic stealing of motor cars with branches in Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide, has been in operation over \thre<f years. One method was to rent garages where cars were altered beyond recognition. Another member of the gang buys a car, insures it with a confederate, steals the car and the gang collect the insurance.
