The greatest Alpine avalanche was that which in 1827 swept away the town of Biel' and killed nearly ninety persons. More than 30,000,000 lemons, about half as many again as are needed, are imported into Great Britain from Sicily each month. Guttapercha was first introduced. into Europe from Malaga in 1852. The annual consumption now amounts to some 4,000,000,0001 b.
