At the inquest on John Murphy, a linesman employed by the Power Board, who fell from a transmission pole at Feilding on Friday last and died en route to the hospital, the Coroner's verdict was that deceased died from a broken neck caused by a fall. The Coroner commented that the deceased failed to observe the definite instructions issued to all employees, not having worn a belt when on the pole. The Coroner urged the Board to see that all employees obeyed the regulations. RUN OVER BY MOTOR CAR. PALMERSTON NORTH, April 29 At the Coroner’s inquiry into the death of Clive Tweedale (22), from injuries sustained by having being knocked down by a motor car on Monday evening, the evidence showed that deceased was afflicted by deafness and failed to observe the approach of a motor car, whose lights were dimmed when approaching a railway crossing. Visibility was bad. The motorist was on the lookout for a train and did not see deceased until upon him.
The Coroner commented that it was a pure accident. The motorist was driving carefully, and he stressed the need for the public exercising caution in crossing the roads, especially at night.
