CONTROL BOARDS AND MR PERRELLE.

To the Editor. • Sir, —Your correspondent “Progress,” in i your issue of 16th inst., says he is perfectly i ignorant of any good and profitable work I the Control Boards are doing. In my : first letter I stated that they had saved i £60,000 per annum which is only half the ■ amount saved. Surely the saving of i £120,000 per annum is good and profitable ■work! Although “Progress” can see no I good in the Control Boards there are other I people who can. The dairy producers of ' Australia, and the honey and fruit pro- • ducers of New Zealand have decided to ! form Control Boards as they recognise the i advantages to be derived from them. Is 1 that not proof that the present Boards must •be doing good work? During Mr de la ! Perrelle’s election campaign, he condemned [ the Reform Government for extravagance I and excessive borrowing, but immediately i he entered Parliament, he urged the Prime Minister to borrow £30,000,000. Now, if !it were necessary to borrow this large ' amount of money after he entered Parlia- ; ment, it was just as necessary during his ' election campaign, when he spoke against : borrowing. This is surely in the nature of ! a somersault and “Progress” states that i there is only one in the Awarua Electorate ! who is credited with being so agile. Is this ■ where Mr Perrelle’s activities are unpre- | cedented ? “Progress” also says that the i remarks of approval I have heard concern- ! ing the Dairy Control Board have been im- ' aginary and have been conjured up in my I mind by my own fireside. I think I have given proof that that is not so, but I think ■ those remarks are more suitable concerning his testimonial to Mr Perrelle. He has i not yet shown us any progress Southland ! has made through Mr Perelle’s efforts, and imy reason for replying to the testimonial • was to find out some facts concerning the I great benefits we are supposed to lie re- ' ceiving. Unless “Progress” is prepared to j give us some facts, there is little use for me ito continue this correspondence.—l am, j etC ’’ AWARUA.
