AMATEUR ATHLETICS
MEETING OF INVERCARGILL CLUB. A meeting of the Invercargill Amateur Athletic Club was held last night, there being present Messrs J. Page (Chairman), F. M. Reid, N. M. Rein, W. Bews, R. C. Morgan, G. Rodger, and E. C. Isaacs (hon. secretary). Messrs F. F. Hermann and G. Rodger were appointed Vice-Presidents of the Club, eulogistic reference being made to the work both had done for amateur athletics. The following were selected to represent the Club at the Otago championships: Hundred and 220 yards, R. C. Morgan and B. Geddes; quarter, R. C. Morgan and W. Bews; half, W. Bews, A. Bissett, W. Allison, D. Simpson; mile, D. Simpson; high jump and long jump, C. Rout and J. G. Wayte; quarter-mile hurdles, W. Bews and J. P. Wayte; hammer and weight, Martin Kean. It was also decided to write to Dr G. Kingston and J. A. C. Mackenzie asking them if they were available. Mr F. M Reid was appointed manager, and Mr G. Rodger trainer. It was decided to approach the Southland Rugby Union with a view to obtaining leave of absence for Mr Rodger. It was decided to send a congratulatory letter to Mr A. J. Deaker, ex-secretary of the Club, on the occasion of his marriage.
