Lord Allenby, at the Residency, in the presence of the principal officials, presented Fred March with a silver medal and the Order of the Empire, also with a cheque for 5000 Egyptian pounds. Lord Allenby paid a tribute to Mr March’s remarkable coolness and courage at the moment of the attack, remarking that he had almost succeeded in saving the Sirdar’s life. The Egyptian gold pound of 100 piastres is worth £1 0/3s.
