RAILWAY PASSES

AUSTRALIAN PARLIAMENTARY DISAGREEMENT. (By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright.) (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.) SYDNEY, December 23. The Legislative Assembly’s attempt to vote members who have stood the acid test of three Parliaments, gold railway passes for life, and the Council’s firm stand in rejecting the proposal, is serving as the outlet for much caustic Press correspondence regarding the ethics of members of the Assembly. This follows a threat by certain members of the Government Party to force the proposal through by swamping the Council with new members. It transpires, however,- that the Ministry is divided on the subject, and such action would be likely to cause Ministerial disruption. In view of this and the approaching General Election, the indications are that the Government will take the safer course of eschewing heroics.
