PARLIAMENT
QUESTION OF EARLIER MEETING. (Per United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, November 6. In the House of Representatives this afternoon, Mr H. E. Holland asked if the Prime Minister would arrange for Parliament to meet earlier next year, in order that it might close about the end of September and give members time to get over their electorates for the General Election campiagn. The Prime Minister said he would take the proposals into consideration. He understood that argument brought forward pretty well. He himself had suffered in days gone by from the same thing. “My electorate is the whole of New Zealand,” remarked Mr Massey, amidst laughter. “The last time —short as the time was—l took the opportunity of addressing 46 meetings, which, I think, was a very good record for the time. Mr D. G. Sullivan: Does that account for your minority? The Prime Minister: The Hon. gentleman has always some nasty suggestion to make. He cannot help it. However, Sir, we are quite able to hold our own and a bit more. I wish that the Hon. gentleman would forget party for once. It would be better for him and the citizens he is supposed to represent. In conclusion, Mr Massey said that he saw no reason why the suggestion should not be carried out.
