FALLEN SOLDIERS’ MEMORIAL.

To the Editor. Sir, —In Thursday’s Times I notice a leader in acknowledgment of my letter re the Memorial Committee, and as far as the suppression of names is concerned I think few people will acclaim the ideals either broad or high; no doubt there will be some who may write and support your remarks and also support the decision of the Committee. But I have yet to learn of a single instance of any parent who has lost a son or other dear relative approving of this course being followed. However, I have no intention of writing further in the meantime on this point, as I now learn it is very probable the Committee may yet see their way clear to alter and modify their final decision and by doing so prevent great and serious dissatisfaction. At your request, I herewith state what I think would be a complete list to be engraved upon the Invercargill manument. AU the names of every soldier who joined up in the Southland district and who made the supreme sacrifice, during and after the close of the war, through wounds and disease proved, to be the results of stress of war service, and for which records can be found. Official numbers if possible and space will aUow, but not really essential; 900 names are provided for and if this is to be crowded out and no other provision made, then engrave the names of Invercarcargill contingent and simply the totals of country districts or of the Southland and Wallace Counties under appropriate headings. A little space could then be left for the future. I am, etc., JUSTICES
