ARMISTICE DAY

TUESDAY’S COMMEMORATION MESSAGE FROM THE KING. (Special to the ’Dines.) WELLINGTON, November 6. Tuesday next is to be observed as in past years by two minutes’ alenco. Cablegrams received by His Excellency the Governor-General from the Secretary of State for the Colonies, a copy of which has been sent by the Government to all local bodies, states: — His Majesty the King has approved of the following arrangements for observance in this country of Armistice Day, November 11: (1) A short service will be held at the Cenotaph on the lines adopted in previous years, including the hymn, "O God, Our Help in Ages Past.” His Majesty the King will be present, and will lay a wreath. (2) Two minutes’ silence will be observed at 11 ami. Local authorities m this country will be asked to arrange for the suspension of all vehicular traffic for two minutes from 11 a.m., but rail and water transport will no* be au»pended. IN INVERCARGILL. SPECIAL CHURCH PARADE. In addition to the customary ceremony of commemorating Armistice Day by standing in silence for two minutes in memory of the fallen, the Defence Department has arranged a church parade of Territorials on the nearest Sunday to this eventful day. The parade will take place on Sunday next, and special services have been arranged at First Church and at the Roman Catholic Basilica. Colonel J. Hargest, DAO. will be in command of the parade, winch win be attended by the Garrison and Pipa Bands. •
