M, The report, as published, was read and adopted, and the balance-sheet, which showed a credit balance of £lO, as against £BO at the beginning of the year, was adopted. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. With reference to payment of subscriptions, it was also decided that members should be notified by circular when their subscriptions were due, and the Treasurer be authorised to procure a suitable set of books for the keeping of Club accounts. It was decided that the committee be instructed to have the Club rules and bylaws revised, typed and circulated amongst members of the Club. The question of incorporating the Club was left to the incoming committee for consideration.

Mr E. M. Gilmour introduced the question of erecting a new pavilion. The building at present in use was totally inadequate and he would move that the incoming committee be given power to proceed in the matter. The President said he considered that this would be too serious a matter for such a small meeting to decide on. Mr de Castro moved that the committee be instructed to go into the matter and submit a report to a meeting to be called some time before October 10. Mr Gilmour accordingly withdrew his motion and seconded that of Mr de Castfo’s, which was .carried. It was decided that the ladder competitions be controlled separately by the ladies’ and gentlemen’s committees. A vote of thanks was accorded the retiring President and Secretary’. RIVERTON CLUB. OFFICIAL OPENING. (From Our Correspondent.) An exceedingly pleasant function, the official opening of Riverton Tennis Club, took place on Wednesday, when, the day being fine and sunny with a light breeze, an excellent attendance of visitors and players thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Mr Wilson (President), in declaring the courts open for the season, thanked the members for the honour conferred upon him, but intimated that better players more worthy than himself should have received that honour. He also expressed hope for a successful season, and mentioned several means whereby the Club might improve both its appearance and its position. A dainty and most enjoyable afternoon tea indicative of forethought and generous care on the part of the ladies was partaken of. The dub wishes to take this opportunity of thanking the ladies for their kindness; also the members of the Croquet dub, who opportunely assisted with the loan of necessary utensils. A tournament—President v. Vice-Presi-dent —was arranged, being won by the President’s side by 3to 1. Following are the results:— Games. A Philadelphia telegram says that the draw is: Patterson v Tilden and O’Hara Wood v Richards, and in the Doubles: Tilden and Johnston v Patterson and O’Hara Wood on the third day. The O’Hara Wood-Tilden and Patterson-Richards matches begin at 1.30 o’clock in the afternoon on the Germantown Cricket Club courts, where O’Hara Wood, Patterson, Kahns and Schlesinger practised to-day. NEW YORK, September 10. Brookes and Mrs Brookes have departed for Australia, leaving by the Sierra. American observers express the certainty that the Davis Cup will remain in the United States but the question has now arisen whether Australia will be able to repeat the showing of last year and 1922. Patterson has beaten Richards before, but it is not the same Richards to-day. He has been playing brilliantly in his best form, while Patterson recently has been decidedly below par. O’Hara Wood, too, is not playing as well as a month ago. It is generally held that Australia cannot expect to win any of the singles but has decidely a more than even chance of winning the doubles if they can return to form in time for the match with Griffin and Johnston this year or against Tilden and
