WANTED: A DEFINITION. CONFERENCE AT WELLINGTON. (Per United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, September 9. A conference of representatives of the different branches cf the tailoring trades in reference to the question of tailor-made and factory-made clothes is being held today. The meeting was convened by the Labour Department, Mr Rowley, secretary of the department, presiding. He submitted the proposed regulations for discussion. The following suggested amendment was approved:—“Any person who sells as tailormade a garment that is not tailor-made commits an offence; any person who sells, or agrees to sell, or offers by advertisement or otherwise, to sell as a tailor-made garment any part of which is made by a person not wholly engaged in the making cf tailor-made garments commits an offence.”

A proposal that the following new provision be made:—“A garment shall not be described as hand-made or as tailored unless it is entirely made by hand,” was on the master tailors’ request held over to give them an opportunity of further considering the question this afternoon.
