THE LOAN TO GERMANY
FRENCH PARTICIPATION. A.N AMERICAN SUGGESTION. (By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright.) (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.) PARIS, September 11. (Received September 11, 11 p.m.). The question of French participation in the loan of £40,000,000 to Germany is exciting controversy. Mr Mellon (secretary to the Treasury of the United States) had a conference with bankers and argued that the loan was less intended as a benefit to Germany than to put Europe on its feet by financing Reparations. He suggested that France take up a small portion, say five centum in dollars, so theoretically she would be lending to America instead of to Germany. It is believed the suggestion will be adopted, but no enthusiasm exists in France.
