WIRELESS IN AUSTRALIA

BROADCASTING REGULATIONS. (By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright.) (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.) MELBOURNE, June 25. It is stated that the Federal Cabinet has reached finality with its new proposals concerning control of wireless broad casting. It is expected that new regulations permitting the sale of open sets w’ill be gazetted on July 1. It is understood that a broadcasting company with a capital of £200,000 will be formed to take over all the broadcasting in Australia. The new company will compensate existing companies. The monopoly to be created will collect and pay to the Commonwealth all licenses and other fees, and part of the profits will be devoted to the improvement of broadcasted programmes and wireless research. With the granting of permission for the sale of open sets licensing fees will be substantially increased, but liberal provision will be made for experimenters’ licenses.
