THE POPE INTERVIEWED ROME WILL NOT GIVE WAY INSURMOUNTABLE DIFFICULTIES. (By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright.) (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.) LONDON, June 23. (Received June 23, 8.0 p.m.) Interviewed by the Century Magazine, the Pope states that he is much interested in the possibility of the Western Churches re-entering the Roman fold, but makes it plain (hat Rome will not alter her dogmas in order to secure such a union. The Archbishop of Canterbury also doubts the possibility of a physical union between the Anglican Church and Rome. Theoretically it wculd be splendid to have ail churches working together as one body, but practically, there are almost- insurmountable difficulties in the way of such a union.
