DISCUSSION AT SOUTHLAND LEAGUE. DISTINCTIVE BRANDS WANTED. ‘T think that the League should protest against the remarks made by members of the South Canterbury Farmers’ Union in regard to Southland lamb,” said Mr J. D. Trotter at a meeting of the Southland League on Thursday afternoon. Mr Trotter said that it was absurd to say that Southland lamb was stringy and of poor quality. This year especially the quality of Southlknd lamb was excellent and quite equal to Canterbury. Southland farmers were suffering on account of their lambs going north, as they were not receiving within 2d per lb of what they should get. Mr Ritchie suggested that it would be a good idea to get into touch with the Meat Board with a view to having lamb marked with the brand of the province from which it came. Mr Lee said that there was no finer set of lambs in the country than those which had passed through the works from the Borstal Institute’s fam thia season.
