IMPERSONATED A KING
SUPER SWINDLER CAUGHT. (By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright.) (Australian and N.Z. Cable .Association.) PARIS, February 14. A super-swindler named Antonie Base, has been sentenced to five years’ imprisonment for defrauding the banks in Paris and Prague of large sums which he obtained on the same day, making the journey by aeroplane. Base is now imprisoned at Barcelona awaiting trial on fifty-four charges. He is also wanted by the police in America and half of Europe for fraud, aggregating 5,000,000 francs. Base's most audacious exploit was the impersonation of the King of Spain during which he was accorded a sumptuous reception in Mauritius.
