FORTNIGHTLY MEETING. REPORTS OF THE COMMITTEE. At to-morrow night's meeting of the Invercargill Town Council, the followiig committee reports will be submitted:— RESERVES. The Committee reports: (11 Having agreed to the appraisement of Pt. sections 12 and 13, block 6, Campbelltown Hundred (M. C. Davidson) as set out in Mr D. Stewart’s report, January 28. 1924, via., (a) the value of improvements at £B5, (b) annual ground rent for further term of years at £9 16s per annum; (2) having under consideration clause 3, sub clause (a>, (c), (e> of Committee’s report of January 28, 1924, in reference to Mr C. M. Smith's report on Sandy Point afforestation; (31 with reference to the letter from Mitchel and Broughton, on behalf of 0. E. Johnston, recommend that the cancellation of lease of section 11., block 63, Town of Invercargill, be consented to and two new leases granted for the remainder of the present term on condition that the rental of the northern half be £6 10s and of the southern half £5 10s per annum, and lhat all costs be paid by the lessee. In order to save time the Borough Solicitor has been asked to prepare the necessary special order which will be submitted to the Council at a special meeting to be held after this ordinary meeting has finished; (4) having considered a communication 10/1/24 from the Department of Internal Affairs re the shrubbery near the Public Library and recommend that same be placed under the care of the Head Gardener; (5) recommend the erection of a roundabout of six ropes at Russell Square early next summer: (6) having examined accounts amounting to £229 Is 3d and passed same for payment. FINANCE. The Committoe reports: (1) Having reconsidered the matter of a contour drain being constructed by the Prisons Department parallel to the road five feet from the eastern boundary of lot 1, reclamation area, in connection with the correspondence received from G. F. Clapcott (late Town Engineer) and Messrs W. Curran, A. Guise and Jas. Macalister, and again recommend they be informed, in terms of the Town Engineer’s report 28/1/24, that the w’ork is in accordance with the scheme of drainage laid down and is authorised to be carried out; (2» having informed the Minister for Internal Affairs re Fire Board assessment, that the contribution has been paid over to avoid incurring the statutory surcharge of 10 per cent, under the Fire Brigades Act, 1908; (3) having reconsidered the matters dealt with in clause 1 of the previous report and now recommend, after perusing an opinion by Mr T. F. Martin, that the Rev. T. and E. Harrington be allowed half water rates and half hospital rates on section 16. block 7, Clyde Street, provided a statutory declaration is made that all the buildings thereon have been unlet and unoccupied, and that no water has been used, for a total period not less than six months during the current financial year; (4) having no recommendation to make in regard to their (Rev. T. and E. Harrington) request that the rates on sections 21/22, Barwheys, and sections 37 to 42. Avenal, for the year ending March 31, 1924, be remitted in full; (5) having the matters discussed at the conference with the Bluff Harbour Board under consideration and will submit a full report later; (61 having the theatre electrician’s report re lighting theatre under consideration; (7) with reference to the Town Clerk’s report 11/2/24, recommend that the public baths loan of £12,000 debentures be offered for sale at par bearing interest at 5| per cent, to mature April 1, 1939; (8) having examined accounts amounting to £5232 13s 4d, and passed same for payment.

GAS, TRAMWAYS AND ELECTRICITY. The Committee reports: (1) Having accepted the Metropolitan-Vickers Electric Co., Ltd.’s tender for the supply of 21 three-phase transformers for £1,622 Is 6d, plus £2O 6s 6d for spares and brackets. Necessary fuse switches to be obtained from the Nation al Electric and Engineering Co. at their quoted price of £122 17s; (2) recommend that the Gas Manager’s requisition for mantles and globes amounting to £7B 10s 6d be approved; (3) having approved of the Gas Manager’s recommendation re instructions to users of gas cookers. Question of printing same left in the hands of the chairman; (4) having examined accounts amounting to £2,379 3s 8d and passed same for payment. PUBLIC LIBRARY. The Committee reports: (1) Having examined accounts amounting to £162, and passed same for payment.
