IN THE PHILIPPINES

FURTHER FIGHTING REPORTED. (By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright.) (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association). MANILA, January 27. (Received January 28, 8 p.m.) The American constabulary, fighting a pitched battle with the Colorums, who have been engaged in roving banditry, killed fifty-four and took a considerable number of prisoners. The Constabulary, which has been concentrated in an effort to wipe out the fanatics, is proving not to be large enough to cope with the unrest, which, it is believed, will require the activities of the regular army since it has infected a large part of the Southern Philippine region.
