SOUTH SCHOOL
MEETING OF-COMMITTEE. At the monthly meeting of the South School Committee there were present Messrs A. W. Jones (chairman), C. W. Patton, A. C. Carman, T. D. Lennie, J. Strang, J. Manson, J. Hain (headmaster!, Mesdames Parkin, Walker and Garrett (secretary). The headmaster’s report stated that the roll number was 729, the average attendance being 666. The chairman reported that arrangements had been made to hold the break-up on Wednesday, December 19, and to hold the school picnic on Thursday, 20th, at” Riverton. The chairman reported that as he would be* absent from Invercargill for a few weeks he had- arranged with Mr Lennie to act as chairman during his absence. Mr Hain reported that a band of Girl Scouts had been formed in connection with the South School, under the leadership of Miss Frew. The Scout movement had proved very popular among the girls and a sale of work had been held in Knox Hall to raise money for uniforms, which had brought in £23. It has been arranged to hold a Girls’ Scout camp at Riverton during the holidays.
It was decided to hold the annual sale and flower show in connection with the school in the second week in February. Donations of prizes were received from Mrs J. Strang and Mr Washer. Accounts amounting to £35 were passed for payment.
