LAND SETTLEMENT
NEW AREAS TO BE OPENED. (Per United Press Association.) GISBORNE, December 14. Hons. W. Nosworthy and R. F. Bollard have returned from a trip up the East Coast where they have been inspecting lands which the Government is anxious shall be made available to desirable settlers. In the course of an interview, Mr Nosworthy said there would shortly be available 8343 acres of good land in Waiapu Country for selection under the Discharged Soldiers’ Settlement Act. Referring to new lands which the Department is throwing open for occupation throughout the Dominion, the Minister said that at present there was available oyer 400,000 acres for selection, and in addition there would be 204,954 acres of new lands to be ballotted for before March 31 next. The latter is comprised of the following areas:—Gisborne district, 8343 acres; Auckland district, 32,091 acres; Otago land district, 164,520 acres.
