POPULATION RETURNS
MOVING ON TO SIX MILLIONS. (By Telegraph—Press Assn. —Copyright.) (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.) MELBOURNE, December 12. The Commonwealth Statistician reports that the population of Australia at the end of September last numbered 5,715,018, of which 2,911,722 were males and 2,803,296 were females. The increase during the year was 279,284, or slightly over 2 per cent.
