LOCK-OUT IN PAPER INDUSTRY. (By Telegraph—Press Assn.-—Copyright.) (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.) CHRISTIANIA, November 16. A lock-out in the paper industry commenced to-day. Attempts by the official mediator to settle the conflict failed and altogether 25,000 men are involved. LATEST STRIKE PHASE. DECORATED WORKERS. SYDNEY, November 17. The latest strike phase al Broken Hill is that the Workers’ Union has resolved that members be compelled to wear a ribbon in a conspicuous place on their persons. One man declined to decorate himself, whereupon a mine was thrown idle for his shift. SYDNEY BREADCARTERS’ UNION. SYDNEY', November 17. The Labour Council has issued an ultimatum to the Breadcarters’ Union declaring hastily to the latter’s action in cooperating with the employers in the dispute over hours of employment. The Council • threatens to form a militant subbranch of the Union to cater for carters considered to be working in the interests of the working class, the latter to wear distinguishing badges when delivering bread. OVERTIME MEDICALLY CONDEMNED. MELBOURNE, November 17. At the Medical Congress, Dr. Purdy strongly condemned overtime as the cause of nervous trouble, which was so fruitful in this direction that it should only be engaged in an emergency.
