ITALY'S POLICY

MUSSOLINI SAYS MEDIATION

AN APPEAL TO AMERICA.

(By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright.) (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association). ROME, February 16. (Received February 18, 5.5 p.m.) Mussolini in the Senate denied that Italy mistrusted England or France. He said he was of the opinion that mediation was out of the question as it was doubtful if the Entente still existed. Italy was the only nation following a peaceful policy. Mussolini recommended the adoption of the Rapallo treaty. Signor Crespi, discussing the Washington Treaty said that the United States was financially master of the situation. He hoped she would take to heart the interests of civilisation. America’s non-ratification of the Versailles Treaty destroyed the political basis of it and people should understand that a whole series of historical facts bound the United States to the Versailles Treaty, which they could not ignore. The Senate passed the Santa Margherita •nd Rapallo treaties.
