THE ECLIPSE
AN OBSOLETE OBSERVATORY. (By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright.) (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association). SYDNEY, October 6. Professor Cooke, of Sydney Observatory, states that his party’s work in observing the eclijise at Goondiwindi was severely handicapped by the fact that the observatory was a museum of antiquated naents. In making special observations to test the Einstein theory he was compelled to use a makeshift, device of inadequate calibre, which failed at the crucial moment. It was, however, adjusted, and he secured a couple of plates which it was hoped would prove satisfactory. Die suggestion was made that the Observatory equipment be handed to a historical society.
