TE AWAMUTU SEAT
RETIREMENT OF A CANDIDATE (Per United Press Association.) TE AWAMUTU, October 5. The announcement that Mr J. T. Petrie had been selected as the Liberal candidate for Waikato gave rise to objection by party supporters, who communicated with Mr Wilford. He replied saying that Mr Petrie had not been accepted by the party, nor had he, as the party leader, had any communication with the announced candidate. Mr Petrie has now retired from the contest, cancelling his announced meetings, and has left the district. Liberal delegates will hold a meeting at Te Awamutu on Saturday to select a candidate, and have asked Mr Wilford to attend.
