As the result of a compulsory conference between the Northern coal owners and the Miners’ Federation, work will be resumed at the West W allsend colliery on Monday. COMPULSORY CONFERENCE DESIRED. SYDNEY, October 6. (Received October 6, 9.30 pan.) The coal miners have filed an affidavit with the Coal Tribunal requesting a compulsory conference with the owners with reference to the log deficiency and pillar questions. A conference between the miners and proprietors on the question of installing electric safety lamps has commenced. STRIKING ENGINEERS AT MOUNT LYELL. ORDERED BACK TO WORK. HOBART, October 5. A number of engineers employed by the Mount Lyell Company, who were dismissed on Friday last for refusing to work the 4S hour week have been instructed by the executive to return to work.
