THE PRACTICE DEPRECATED. (Special to the Times.) CHRISTCHURCH, October 4. Apropos of a Dunedin protest against Sunday funerals, the attitude of the Anglican Church in this connection was defined by Archbishop Julius to-day. “The Synod has on several occasions passed resolutions deprecating the frequency of Sunday funerals as being a serious tax upon the clergy, who have other duties and engagements to fulfil on Sundays,” said His Grace, “Sunday funerals also interfere with the rest of the undertakers and men connected with the cemeteries. We recognise the fact that in some cases a Sunday tuner al is unavoidable owing to the necessity of hasty burial In our opinion increased charges should be made by the authorities tor funerals on Sundays in order to discourage them.” Inquiries made at Christchurch cemeteries elicited the information that Sunday funerals are not as numerous now as they were a few years ago:
