SALE OF WORK

ST. PETER’S METHODIST CHURCH With the object of raising funds for the purpose of building a new Sunday School, a sale of work was opened in St. Peter’s Methodist Church, Elies road, yesterday afternoon. In the absence of the Mayor, the sale was officially declared opened by the Rev. J. H. Haslam, who, in the course of a brief address expressed the hope that the sale would be the means of bringing the scheme they had in view, appreciably nearer.

The Church was prettily decorated with streamers and balloons and those who were responsible for the organisation of the sale, apparently spared no effort to make it attractive. The stalls were also bedecked with evergreens and were laden with articles both decorative and ornamental. In the evening a very enjoyable twenty-minutes’ entertainment was given by the “Enwood Ramblers.” The attendances at both sessions was highly satisfactory and business was brisk,

The stallholders are as follow’s: —Plain Stall: Mesdames Lee, Anderson and Suckling; Children’s Stall: Mesdames Williams and Cook; Young Ladies’ Stall: Misses Cheyne and Sampson and Mrs Haslam; Produce: Mesdames Cushen, McLean and Tuson: Handkerchief and d’oyley: Mrs Thompson; Cake Stall: Mesdames Baker and Bennett; Sweets: Mrs .Garrett and Miss Hall; Christmas Tree: Miss G. Hall; Flower Stall: Mrs Matthews, Miss Anderson; Tearooms: Mesdames Patton and Gjyenwood.
