TOM MANX
VISIT TO SOUTH AFRICA. (By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright.) (AuMralian and N_Z. Cable Association). CAPETOWN, October 2. Mr Tom Mann has arrived, at. the invitation of certain labour organisations. Interviewed, he said he was not out to create trouble but to help in the work of rebuilding the trade unions, which were apparently in a bad way. He expressed disapproval of certain features of the new conciliation scheme, stating that his eight years’ Australian experience of similar institutions showed that they did not advance the true interests of the workers. He was convinced that nothing less than identification with international movements would meet labour's requirements of the future. He also had in view the need for action in connection with an organisation styling itself the Class War Prisoners Release Committee, which protested against sentences imposed on men concerned in the recent strike, and he would join with the South African workers in demanding a general amnesty.
