ADVERTISE
SIR ALFRED MOND’S ADVICE TO BUSINESS MEN. Sir A. Mond, Minister of Health, speaking at the Swansea Chamber of Commerce, suggested to the members of the Swansea anthracite trade that an active propaganda would abate the smoke nuisance and at the same time increase revenue. In the present state of trade there is only one tiling that could help, and that was notto be afraid to spend what was left to them trying to induce people to buy their goods. There was a tendency for people who knew all about a thing that other people knew the same. The ignorance of the buying public was not taken into account. The enterprising American who came over here and sold off copies of the ‘‘Encyclopaedia Britannica” said: “You could sell the British public 50-year-old Bradshaws if you advertised them sufficiently.” He might have exaggerated, but there was no doubt that a great deal more in the way of selling things could be done if people would expend more money on advertising.
