GAMES OF GAEL
CONDITIONS OF AUGUST MEETING. (Per United Press Association.) AUCKLAND, May 14. Particulars of the proposed Irish Olympic games in Dublin during next August have reached M. J. Sheahan in a letter from Mr J. J. Welch, director of the Tailtean Games: “It should be clearly understood,” states Mr Welch, “that the games of Gael have always been kept aloof from the political conflict. Prominent men of all views are working together to ensure the success of this great Irish athletic event. It is the earnest endeavour of all that this common platform on which all Irishmen may meet should continue to be non-political. The promoters suggest the formation of committees in each country to procure capital to send competitors to Ireland. The promoters cannot defray any travelling or other expenses, but a transport sub-committee is engaged in obtaining concessions from shipping companies and railways. The competitions are open to all amateuns born in Ireland or one of whose parents was born in Ireland or two of whose grandparents on one side were born there.”
