WANGANUI HARBOUR
GREATER DEPTH SECURED. (Per United Press Association.) WANGANUI, May 14. The cry “back to nature” has been adopted with good results-by the Wanganui Harbour Board. A comparatively small sum was spent on harbour works during the past year, yet by gently guiding the natural current of the tides and stopping the sand drift, a marked improvement has been wrought. It was reported at the annual meeting of the Board that the entrance now shows the greatest depth ever recorded, 24ft 3in at high water spring tides, and 21ft 3in at high water. The depth has been increasing month by month since the new methods were adopted. Mr A. G. Bignell, who was re-elected chairman for another term, expressed the confident belief that liners would be berthed at Castleciiff in the near future. The depth of the water in the river channel to the town wharf has also been much improved, the shallowest portion being fourteen feet.
