WESTERN RESERVE
AREAS ALIENATED RUGBY UNION’S REMINDER The movement of the Council to acquirt the Western Reserve for building purposes was referred to at the annual meeting of the S.R.F.U. last night, and D. K. Torrance said that they should protest against the utilisation of any part of the reserve for building purposes. Dr. Ritchie Crawford said that he had already protested against the action of the Council through the press. Years ago the Council had promised so much land in exchange for the Power House site, that area to be on the reclaimed land at Otatara. He protested against the statement that only three or four of the reserves were used for sporting purposes, as it gave a false impression. Mr A. J. Geddes said that in 1912, when the Council was empowered to take the Power House site, it promised an area on the reclaimed land in exchange. The farm was now coming back to the Council and tills was their opportunity to ask that the ten acres promised be allocated. The Council should now be asked to redeem its promise, and the ground allocated for sports. A motion that a strong protest be entered against the Council using any of the reserves for building purposes particularly the Western Reserve, was carried. The incoming committee was instructed to take up the matter of the allocation of the ground promised on the reclaimed area.
