DAYLIGHT BAKING
QUESTION BEFORE CONCILIATION COUNCIL (Special to the Times.) WELLINGTON, March 29. The question of daylight baking is before the Conciliation Council in Wellington. The bakers and pastrycooks are claiming new conditions, including a substantial increase in pay. They are not asking for the absolute prohibition of night work, but are proposing that such work shall carry £1 per week extra. Master bakers contend that this would be equivalent to forcing the bakers to work only in day time, and to supply the public with stale bread. The case is expected to go to the Arbitration Court.
