ORDER IN BANKRUPTCY

LEGAL FIRM’S LIABILITIES (Per United Press Association.) AUCKLAND, September 14. A meeting of the clients and creditors of Hammond and Cracknell, solicitors, was held on September 1, when eighty persons were present. Arthur Cracknell, the surviving partner, stated that the firm’s liabilities were £45,000 and the assets between £25,000 and £30,000. This statement was repeated to Mr Justice Adams at the Supreme Court to-day by David Kay, land agent, when giving evidence in support of his petition to have Cracknell adjudicated a bankrupt. There was no appearance on behalf of debtor. Kay deposed to a cheque received from the firm having been dishonoured and the issue of a writ and judgment a few hours before Hammond died. At the creditors’ meeting Cracknell stated that he joined the firm in 1914. Cracknell’s solicitors then stated that the firm was insolvent. His Honour made an order adjudicating debtor bankrupt.
