ARTERIAL ROADS
THE MINISTER’S PROPOSAL. CONFERENCE AT CHRISTCHURCH (Per United Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, August 4. The control, construction and improvement of arterial and main roads was discussed at a conference of representatives of South Inland Local Bodies and Motor Associations. The chairman (Mr F. W. Johnston) said the principal feature of the Main Highways Bill and Motor Bill was to construct an arterial road running right through from north to south, and that there should be a tax on tyres. Mr Angell (Otago Motor Club), moved that the conference should approve of the formation of two road boards, one for each Island, which was carried unanimously.
