CAR FALLS OVER EMBANKMENT. LADY SEVERELY INJURED. (Per United Press Association). OTAKI, June 20. A motor car containing a party capsized over a 70-foot embankment in Otaki Gorge yesterday. Miss Joplin was badly injured, and the others were severely shaken. LEVEL CROSSING ACCIDENT. AUCKLAND, June £O. A collision between a train from Htrntly and a motor car containing Dr McDermott, of Huntly, and another passenger, occurred at a crossing this morning. When the driver of the engine saw the motor he attempted to avoid a collision by backing the train, but it was too late, and the engine crashed into the car, which was damaged, the two passengers having a miraculous escape. COLLAPSE OF A FOOTBALLER. WANGANUI, June 20. A half-caste Maori named Chas. Wm Beck, aged 22, collapsed when playing football at Patea on Saturday. He died on admission to the hospital. FARMER FOUND SHOT THAMES, June 20. It was reported to the police to-day that Norman James Waite, a single man aged 29, a farmer at Kowpaurahi, was found dead on his farm, with a gun beside him. It is thought that death was due to an accident.
