FROZEN MEAT
HEAVY SHIPMENTS HOME. DECLINE IN PRICES. (Special to the Times.) CHRISTCHURCH, June 20. Record shipments of meat from the Dominion in the months of June and July are forecasted. Indeed this, month is the busiest period so far experienced in the export trade since the outbreak of war, but unfortunately the meat will arrive in London at an unfavourable time. Prices are re- : ceding at Home, and the London market j has been heavily supplied during the past : few months. The huge shipments from New Zealand which will arrive when home-grown supplies are coming forward are expected to further depress matters in the United Kingdom. During May there were shipped from the Dominion 316,000 carcases of mutton, 510,000 carcases of lamb, and 90,000 quarters of beef. In addition about 1,000,000 single carcases of New Zealand mutton and beef were shipped from North America to London. For the five months ended May 31 the London market had received from all outside sources 2,700,000 carcases of mutton, 2,700,000 carcases of lamb, and 3,236,000 quarters of beef. Large as were the shipments from the Dominion during May, it is anticipated that the loadings during June will be nearly three times as great. There seems likely to be almost a clearance from the stores, if holders take advantage of the shipping facilities, by the end of September.
