HEAVY WEEK-END CASUALTIES A MONAGHAN ROUND-UP HUNDREDS OF ARRESTS. (By Telegraph —Press Asen. —Copyright.) (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.) LONDON, June 11. (Received June 12, 5,5 p.m.) Six armed men attacked three police at Belfast. Constable Glover was shot dead and the others and a civilian were severely wounded. The assailants escaped. The casualties among the Crown forces last week were the highest since 1916. They comprise sixteen police and eight military killed, and nineteen police and 24 military wounded. The Crown forces made hundreds of arrests during a big round up of Sinn Feiners in Monaghan County, including several noted gunmen, some of whom were taken from their beds.. THE ULSTER SENATE. LEFT TO THE UNIONISTS. LONDON, June 11. (Received June 13, 12.45 a.m.) The Nationalists and Sinn Feiners are ignoring to-day’s election of the North of Ireland Senate, although the Unionists left seats open for them. The Unionists Lad to nominate the whole Senate, all being returned unopposed, including three Unionist labour men. The Sunday Express states that the Government intends to fix a time limit foi Sinn Fein to operate the Home Rule Act in southern Ireland. If Sinn Fein is recalcitrant the Government will at the end of July begin a vigorous nr’.’itary campaig t to suppress disorder. ADMIRAL SIMS’S SPEECH. EXCITEMENT AT WASHINGTON. BITTER IRISH ATTACKS. WASHINGTON, June 10. Representative Gallivan introduced a resolution in the House which would forbid the re-admittsnee of Admiral Sims to this country. Admiral Sims’s London speech has created an extraordinary furore in political circles. Politicians from the State® where the Irish vote is prominent launched bitter attacks against the Admiral. On the other hand it is pointed out that Colonel Harvey was not reprimanded for his speech, w’hich caused almost as great a commotion. The Conservative press in Washington regrets that Admiral Sims erred in his choice of language, but is inclined to think that there is a great deal of truth in his remarks. ADMIRAL SIMS RECALLED. WASHINGTON, June 11. (Received June 12, 11.45 p.m.) Mr Denby cabled to Admiral Sims that the remainder of his leave was revoked and he must return to America immediately and report to the Secretary for the Navy. AMERICAN LABOUR RESOLUTIONS. NEW YORK, June 11., (Received June 12, 5.5 p.m.) At the American Federation of Labour convention to be held at Denver, Colorado, next week, the Irish question is expected to be the paramount issue. Many resolutions have been prepared, including one advocating a boycott of British goods and materials until the war in Ireland is stopped. Another, to be presented by the metal workers, demands the recall of Admiral Sims and his dishonourable discharge from the Navy.
