(Received September 21, 9.45 p.m.l The Anti-Profiteering Bill provides, intet“ alia, for the restriction of undue profits, the collection of information regarding the operations of trusts, prevention of unfair methods of trade competition, promotion of co-operative enterprises, amendment of the Arbitration Acts and control of the acquisition of necessary commodities and control of necessary services. The penalties for bleaches of the Act arc fixed in fines ranging from £](KJ to £IOOO and imprisonment for five years. The Supreme Court is empowered to wind up corporations guilty of breaches of the Act. The Bill also provides for limitation o£ the export of necessary commodities when there are not sufficient supplies for home consumption, and taxation of excess profits. JUDGESHIPS FOR POLITICIANS A HITCH. S’i DNEY, September 21. A hitch has arisen respecting the appointment of Mr James to the Judiciary. The Supreme Court Bench already contains its full complement, but Mr Justice Sly, who is on twelve months’ leave of absence, retires in December. It is suggested that Mr James be appointed an acting judge, till a vacancy occurs.
