Mr A. F. Stock has been appointed representative of the Government Tourist Department in Riverton. The Mataura Borough Council at its last meeting appointed the Mayor, Mr John Lowden, to represent the borough on the Board of the Southland League. Out of 08 applications from all parts of the dominion, Mr J. F. P. Meatman has been appointed secretary’ to the Nelson Provincial Fruitgrowers’ Council. Mr Y’eatman, who resides at Port Nelson, was during the war associated with the Munitions Department, London.

Mr G. M. Ollivicr, of Christchurch, who is the lawn tennis champion of New Zealand, will leave for Melbourne about October 13th, tn compete in the Victorian lawn tennis championships, at. the request of Mr Norman Brookes, selector of the Australasian Davis Cup team.

Colonel G. F. C. Campbell, Secretary to the Treasury, at present in England, has been appointed to act in conjunction with the High Commissioner (Sir James Allen) as representing New Zealand at ihe International Conference to be held at Brussels on the 25th inst. to discuss financial matters. Mr J. N. Mills, town traveller at Christchurch for Messrs Mackerras and Hazlett, died .suddenly on Saturday. He arrived in New Zealand with his parents in 1859. Ha was a cousin of Sir Janies Mills. He had .54 years’ unbroken service with his firm. He was a director of the New Zealand Paper Mills, Ltd.

Among recent changes in the Education Department is the appointment of Mr W. A. Service as an inspector of schools with headquarters at Invercargill. Mr Service entered the teaching profession as a pupil* teacher at (he Bluu Public School, and has been in the service of the Otago Education Board, being first assistant at Momington. Mr A. Bain, 8.A., headmaster of the Waimatc District High School, has been appointed an inspector of schools, with Dunedin as his headquarters. Mr Bain has been in charge of the Waimate School for three years, was previously headmaster of tlie Geraldine School, and was for several years on the stall of the South School, Invercargill.
