PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION
THE DEMOCRATIC CONVENTION. PRESIDENT WILSON’S PLATFORM. (By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright.) (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.) WASHINGTON, June 21. All kinds of speculations are being indulged in concerning the Democratic Convention at San Francisco on June 28. Delegates representing Wilsonian opinion are expected to dominate the Convention, although Mr Bryan and Senator Reed are expected to give the President’s forces a stiff fight. A two-thirds majority will be needed by the successful aspirant. Messrs Glass and Colby, before leaving Washington for San Francisco, had individual conferences with Mr Wilson, at which it is said that the President gave them drafts of the platform which he wishes the Democratic Convention to adopt. This platform it is understood, will take a firm stand for the League of Nations without nullifying the reservations, but it does not mention the Irish or prohibition questions.
