RYAN LIBEL CASE. (By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright.) (Australian and New Zealand Cable Assn.) SYDNEY, December 16. The High Court has commenced the rehearing of the case wherein Mr Ryan, exPremier of Queensland, is claiming £IO,OOO from the Melbourne Argus for alleged libel. Received December 16, 11.10 p.m. The High Court returned a verdict for i Ryan against the, Argus and a farthing 'damages were awarded to Ryan. SYDNEY'S MAYORAL DEADLOCK. SYDNEY, December 16. Received December 16, 'll.lO p.m. The second attempt to elect the Lord Mayor failed, Richards and Lambert again received 13 votes each. The Council accordingly adjourned till December 30 when another effort will be made. AUSTRALIANS AND ALLENBY. SYDNEY, December 16. General Ryrie has returned from Egypt. Referring to Lord Allenby’s pointed omission of reference to the Australians recently he said their behaviour was excellent. A regrettable incident occurred at Qurafcud in Palestine which was perhaps responsible for Lord AllentSY's non-refcrence to the Australians, but the act he held Australians responsible for should never have been attributed to them as it was the work of New Zealanders.
