SUICIDE IN MARY STREET

MR D. ,J. SUTHERLAND THE VICTIM, Quite a gloom will bo east over the Corporalion oflicc-s where he was employed, and over a wide circle of fronds, when it becomes known to-day that Mr David James Sutherland, of 107 Mary street, last evening committed suicide by cutting his throat with a razor. Mrs Sutherland states that her husband had been peculiar for some time. He would not talk and was worried over the war, a brother of his having been killed in action recently. About five minutes before the tragedy his wife spoke to him advising him to shave and go to the pictures, She missed him shortly afterwards and on searching found him with his throat cut, lying at the bottom of the garden. Drs Snow and Stewart were immediately summoned, but little medical evidence will be necessary as the fearful gash inflicted must have caused instantaneous death. Deceased was 47 years of age and leaves a widow to mourn his loss. 1
