CHAMBER OF COMMERCE

MONTHLY MEETING,

The Invercargill Chamber of Commerce met yesterday, when there were present: Messrs J. H. Reed (chair), J. Crosby-Smith, Jno. McQueen, F. St. J. Loughnan, J. S. Gilkison, T. D. A. Moffett, and R. Dunlop. Apologies were received from Messrs Hoyles, Crammond, Bicknell, and Carswell. CORRESPONDENCE. The Industrial Association of Canterbury forwarded copy of resolution urging the Efficiency Board to move in the direction of the establishment of local trying-out camps for Second Division men in order that men might not be medically rejected from Trentham. —Supported. D C. Campbell, Ltd. (Dunedin) acknowledged receipt of the Chamber’s letter re goods for Invercargill being allowed to cross the wharves at the transhipping rate of 2/- per ton and sent on by rail. As the Borough Council of Invercargill had strongly protested against any alteration being made, no action was taken. Subcommittee appointed to confer with Borough Council Harbour Committee on the matter.

The Association of the New Zealand Chambers of Commerce forwarded minutes of meeting which the president and secretary were requested to condense for submission to next meeting. Further discussion of the through express train was held over till next meeting, as was also a letter from the Canterbury Chamber relative to the terms and conditions of sale of grain, seed, and produce.
