MILITARY APPEAL BOARD

RIVERTON SITTING, (Before Messrs V. G. Day, S.M. chairman, A. S. Orbcll and Robt. Breen). The following is a list of appeals heard at Riverton yesterday afternoon before the Second Otago Military Service Hoard. Win. Wilson (for whom Mr Rodgers appeared) said he had AS cows to look after. Air Rodgers mentioned that men like this were hard to find, but the Board thought otherwise. Alex. Beange was 'appealed for on behalf of the Otautau D. F.. Mr Dey mentioned that the Government would not take men who were indispensable. Air P'isher (who appeared on behalf of the factory) said that Beange could not be done without. Beange was ordered to go into camp on July 20th. R. M. Fitzgerald stated that he had eczema. Adjoining to next sitting, and to be medically examined. George Henry Keen was grunted till 20th July. Joseph John AlcLcan's case was adjourned sine die. Harry James AlcLean appealed for time. He had a most excellent family record, and the application was recommended by Captain Barrett. —To go into camp on July 20th. Albert Norman was quite willing to go into camp on July 20th, but the Board said June 20t-h. Alex. It. Officer, farmer, Thornbury, had 700 sheep to watch and some cattle to look after. His father was retired. —Adjourned for three months. Jas. Alex. Pankhurst, Hekeia. handed in a statement. He was a conscientious objector, and was prepared to serve as a non-combatant. The Board said this could be arranged. Peter Scott, farmer, Tuatapere, said his father was 75 years of .age. His farm was not mortgaged. He had one brother at the front and a brother of his had been killed in Soutli Africa. — Case adjourned for three months. D. Spowart, miner, Nightcaps, said he had four brothers serving with the colours. —Adjourned sine die. A. J. Templeton, flaxmiller, received very favourable consideration. Captain Barrett declined to take evidence against appellant owing to his having such a splendid family record. Captain Barrett said: "Leave this man alone,” and the Board acquiesced.
