Y.W.C.A. GARDEN FETE

A PLEASANT FUNCTION. Blessed with glorious autumn weather and “pushed” by a band of willing and eager helpers, the Young Women's Christian Association fete, held in the splendid grounds of Mr A. F. Hawke, Duke street, Gladstone, yesterday afternoon was a decided success. Numerous stands and stalls were dotted about the lawns and the fair salefolk appeared to he kept busy, while the tea lawn was certainly heavily patronised. The ladies in charge of the various stalls were ;—Produce : Mesdames McGregor and Parr, Misses Herman and Sutton. Flowers: Mesdames Longuet and Searell. Woodwork : Mrs Thompson. Cakes : Mrs Hamilton. Mysterious parcels : Miss Taylor and the Girls’ Department. Sweets : Mrs Walker, Misses Shardlow, McLean and Williamson. Afternoon tea: Mesdames Royds and Crammond and assistants. Croquet : Mrs T. M. Macdonald. Putting : Mrs Prain. The afternoon's doings were interspersed with vocal and instrumental items of which the large gathering was not lacking in its expression of appreciation. Those who contributed were : Miss Ibbotson, Mr H. C. Foster and Dr Brown (solos), and Mr Brian D. Mehaffey (violin solo). Mr Horace Gleeson acted as accompanist. Financially the gathering was particularly successful and resulted in the funds of the Association benefiting to a very considerable extent and the result must be considered highly satisfactory.
