A TRAM ACCIDENT
EXPLANATION ACCEPTED,
(Per United Press Association.) AUCKLAND. March 5. An inquiry was held by the Tramway Company in regard to the accident at Khyber Pass on February 21 when a car out of control left the rails and made a breach ' between an hotel and the bank at Newmarket. The motorman in charge of the car stated that he was tired, having been awake from 4 a.m. There had been a cyclonic storm which damaged his house and necessitated shifting the furniture. He went on duty for the Tramway Company between 3 and 4 p.m. On the trip down Khyber Pass road at midnight he dosed. He remembered nothing that occurred until thrown from his seat when the car jumped the points. The Tramway Company’s manager said he was satisfied that the inquiry disclosed the true cause of the accident, and stated that the motorman is one of its most trusted employees.
