A large number of friends gathered at the Carriers’ Arms Hotel on Wednesday evening to bid farewell to Misses Rachel and Bella Judge, who are leaving for the North, and presented them with a silver jewel case and silver handbag respectively, as a token of the esteem in which they are hold. Miss Edith Howes, whose latest book, "The Cradle Ship," has already attracted much attention, has been offered, and lias accepted, the charge of the primary department of the Wellington Girls’ College. Miss Howes lias for many years held the position of mistress of the infant department of the public school at Gore, which, gradually moulded to her orau ideals, now ranks as one of the model infant schools in the dominion. Miss Howes’s chief reason for accepting the Wellington appointment is that it offers freer and fuller scope for carrying out her original ideas in regard to the education of the young.
